Focus on our Community

Boddington Community Resource Centre

The Boddington Community Resource Centre, formally known as the Boddington Old School, was established on the 18th May 2003. The Old School Complex was original used as the local primary school and high school from 1st of September 1920 til the 7th of March 2000 before being relocated to the new school adjacent the town sports oval.

The BCRC provides many services ranging from internet, printing, desk top publishing, faxing, venue hire for meetings, training & functions. It currently has Centrelink, TAFE access point, Newmont Community Relations Office, Youth Centre and other community groups operating within the Old School complex.   As part of the Community Resource Network (through Royalties for Regions), we are able to employ two full time trainees (12 month contracts), we also have a student based trainee and a work experience student. In addition we employ a number of locals in fulltime/part time/casual positions to service the centre & its functions which include an annual Music Festival and a Community Festival (held on Rodeo Weekend). Not only do we organise events and functions we also organise regular community activities such as; a Men’s Shed, Youth Arts, Welcome to Boddington morning teas, Community excursions etc; it’s a great way for the town to socialise and engage in activities whilst supporting out local organisations and businesses.

The BCRC has preserved the historical aspects of this once successful school by keeping the room names as “the principal office”, “the staff room” and “the library” some rooms still have the original benches, sinks, doors, pin-up boards and blackboards. Many people who enter the BCRC are intrigued with the structure of this establishment and begin to remiss back to their schooling days. It’s a fantastic, enthusiastic and historical environment enjoyed by both the young and the elderly.

For more information drop into Lot 61 Bannister Road, Boddington or contact Elizabeth Hoek on 9883 8246.

Available Grants & Funding Opportunities

RDA-Peel Image

RDA Peel holds information on many grants available to community groups. The following are just a few current grants and funding opportunities available, however if your group needs funding for purposes other than general administration costs and overheads, please contact us direct to discuss your situation. Please use the links for more information and relevant grant guidelines and applications.

Shed Development Program - Australian Government
Men's Sheds and community-based organisations can apply for up to $10,000 through the second round of the Australian Government's Shed Development Program.  All Sheds in Australia can apply for up to $10,000 (GST excl) for a range of financial support across three funding categories: Workspace Development; Building and Operational; and Shed Co-ordinator. This allows Sheds and organisations supporting Sheds in the community to apply for funds to better respond to local needs.

Men’s Sheds have long been recognised as meeting places where men can find social support and camaraderie. During consultations for the National Male Health Policy there was considerable support expressed for Men’s Sheds for their demonstrated success in reaching marginalised and isolated males and in contributing to improvements in male health and wellbeing.

The funding available directly to Men’s Sheds includes provisions for Men’s Sheds to apply to AMSA for items such as tools, equipment, purpose built workspaces, improvements to Sheds and the engagement of a Shed Co-ordinator.

Applications close 29 April 2011.
